The front is composed of fine black lace, hand crocheted over many hours with a disciplined slow masonry of the hand. The pattern is freestyle and organic in shape, like a drawing. Every top is unique.
The back is constructed from repurposed fabric that carries its own history. This particular piece of fabric was sourced in s'Gravenpolder Zeeland. It is a towel fabric with a dolphin scene, most likely a holiday destination.
The subtle traces of its previous life are preserved as part of the garment's character.
In this piece, the new labor of the crochet meets the older record of the fabric.
It is a sovereign object that reconciles the past and the present, resulting in a durable, wearable archive of time.
